Battle for Worker Organizing Rights is Engaged

EPI News                   MARCH 25, 2009            The Battle for Worker Organizing Rights is Engaged  EPI has long argued that restoring the right to form or join a union would  go a long way toward returning balance to labor markets, where bargaining power  has been heavily weighted toward employers in recent years.

AFSCME Council 65 PEOPLE Program

AFSCME members are public and non-profit organization employees. Cities, counties, schools, nursing homes, library, corrections, court, and hospital employees are paid entirely or largely with public funds.

Thus, AFSCME members’ wages and benefits are subject to the interests, will and even whims of politicians.

So, in order to ensure our members are compensated fairly for their work, we MUST be active in the political process!

Federal law states that anytime we get involved in congressional, senate or presidential elections, we can’t spend union treasury money.  So, we must seek voluntary contributions for our political action committee, PEOPLE. (Public Employees Organized for Political Equality).  PEOPLE money also funds members who take time off to work on elections.

Right now, the national union sends more money to us to help in Minnesota elections than Minnesota AFSCME members contribute to PEOPLE.

To ensure there is enough money to fight for fair wages and benefits for YOU, we need your help.  Contribute to PEOPLE.

How to Contribute

(1)Payroll Deduction – If your union contract allows, you can sign a card which instructs your employer to take your PEOPLE contribution out of your payroll check.

(2)Checking Account/Debit Card Contribution – If your contract doesn’t include payroll deduction language, we can deduct an amount you specify from your checking account t or your debit card.

(3)Write a check.

Fill out the form below to receive the needed sign up info.
